The Fay Nash Walker Wayland Scholarship

Fay Nash began her career at Walker Garriety on 28 November 1966, working with Senior Insolvency Partner John Walker at the age of 51—a time when most women considered retirement. Initially based in Phillip Street, the firm later moved to Pitt Street, where Fay worked until her retirement at 72 when the office relocated in 1988.

Fay was known for her formal demeanor, respectfully referring to John Walker as “the Boss” in private. Their mutual respect was evident, with John advising her on financial planning. Deeply committed to her work, Fay even pursued accountancy studies at her local Technical College. However, upon learning she would need six more years of part-time university study to become a Chartered Accountant, she chose not to continue due to her age.

Unmarried and without family, Fay treated the firm’s partners and staff as her own.

Even in retirement, she remained connected, attending annual Christmas parties until age 92. Inspired by her unrealized dream, Fay planned a scholarship for girls aspiring to become Chartered Accountants. She diligently saved and invested to fund it, forgoing personal indulgences. Fay passed away from cancer on 10 February 2009, leaving a legacy of generosity and aspiration for future generations.
