As part of our commitment to meeting our legal and professional obligations, we comply with Australia’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) legislation.
For certain services, we are required by law to verify the identity of our clients and, where applicable, the identity of beneficial owners and other relevant parties. We may also need to obtain information about the purpose and nature of the engagement and the source of funds or wealth where required.
These requirements may apply to both new and existing clients. Even if you have been a client of our firm for many years, we may be required to request updated identification or additional information to comply with our legal obligations.
Where identity verification is required, we will generally be unable to commence or continue providing designated services until the necessary verification has been completed.
In some circumstances, the AML/CTF legislation restricts what we are permitted to disclose to clients. This means there may be occasions where we are legally prohibited from explaining why certain information has been requested or why we are unable to proceed with an engagement.
Depending on the nature and complexity of the verification required, additional work may be necessary to satisfy our legal obligations. Where this is the case, we reserve the right to charge for the time and costs incurred in completing the required AML/CTF procedures. If additional fees are likely to apply, we will discuss these with you wherever practicable before undertaking the work.
We appreciate your cooperation in providing any information or documentation we request. All personal information collected for AML/CTF purposes is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable privacy legislation.
