ATO fuel crisis relief payment plan
The ATO’s fuel response payment plan is a temporary support measure for eligible ABN holders affected by higher fuel costs. Eligible taxpayers may access a payment plan with no upfront payment, 36 equal monthly instalments, and potential GIC remission.
Taxpayers may be eligible if they:
- hold an ABN;
- have been affected by increased fuel prices or have higher business costs directly from fuel, or indirectly through freight, logistics or supply chain costs;
- have a new tax debt, or are struggling to meet an existing ATO payment plan;
- can show their ability to pay has reduced because of fuel price increases and would have been otherwise able to meet payment obligations had it not been for the increase in fuel prices;
- ensure their lodgements are up to date within 3 months of the payment plan being set up. Please note that payment plans may be cancelled if lodgements are not up to date within this period.
Applications are available until 30 June 2026 and can be lodged via your tax agent or online via the Australian Tax Office’s Online services for businesses.
Economic Resilience Program
The Economic Resilience Program is a $1 billion Australian Government program funded through the National Reconstruction Fund, offering zero-interest loans to support manufacturers and logistics businesses affected by market disruptions, particularly in freight, fuel, fertiliser and plastics. Loans are not grants and principal must be repaid. Bank-administered loans are capped at $5 million, with larger loans or businesses over $100 million turnover applying directly to the NRFC. Funds can help cover increased input costs, supply-chain disruption recovery, or increased production of critical goods.
Eligibility criteria:
- Must be an Australian entity with a valid ABN.
- Must operate in manufacturing or logistics in a targeted industry.
- Must be materially impacted by market disruption or contribute to Australia’s sovereign industrial capability.
- Majority of business activity must fall within approved ANZSIC codes.
- Turnover under $100 million: apply through participating banks.
- Turnover over $100 million, or loans above $5 million: apply directly to NRFC.
The eligible industries list includes food, fuel, fertiliser, plastics, freight/logistics, metals, construction materials, machinery and waste services.
